The training will be divided in two half days:
First half day will be first dedicated to a theoretical approach of Research Data Long Term Preservation (RDLTP) through three perspectives:
- RDLTP significance for Data Governance and Data Quality Assessment.
- How RDLTP can constitute a key element for Open Science requirements, leading to more transparent and FAIR Principles compliant Research Data Management practices.
- RDLTP's role in the entire Research Data Life Cycle.
The lesson will then focus on Research Data backup and archiving processes with an overview of LOCKSS (Lots Of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and other preservation architectures.
Second half day will be devoted to an interactive lesson on the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) standard, with general discussion on Research Data's metadata, file profiling, Persistent identifiers, privacy and copyright.
It will finally include a demonstration of the Swiss national Research Data repository OLOS.
At the end of the training, participants will:
- Understand Research Data Long Term Preservation's role in Data Governance, Research Data Life-Cycle and Open Science.
- Know the basics of preservation architectures.
- Be able to mobilize OAIS model's main concepts.
- Get to know OLOS.
The workshop is intended for researchers, PhD students, research counsellors, librarians and in general for all people dealing with research data. The class is open to HES internal and external audience. The course will be provided in French and question can be asked in English and French.

- Hugues Cazeaux: Long-term preservation architect in the DLCM project, Head of the e-Research Team at University of Geneva.
