Biography
Patrick started his career as scientist after graduating in high-energy particle physics. He obtained his PhD in cryo-electron microscopy of DNA in the lab of Jacques Dubochet, which he followed by a first post-doc in pharmaceutical chemistry at University of California San Francisco contributing to one of the tri-therapies against HIV. His second post-doc focused on applied mathematics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. He then left the research career to serve for 13 years as Swiss National Contact Point for the European Research Program ICT, where he coordinated the regional offices of Euresearch as vice-director of Euresearch as well. In 2014, he joined the management of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) then first as Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at HES-SO (University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Western Switzerland) for 4 years, and from 2018 as coordinator of the national "Scientific Information Programme", supporting the collaboration between swiss HEI in establishing services and e-infrastructures geared towards open science in the future.
