Needs and Challenges for Putting FAIR into Practice
Biography
After he got his Diplom-Ingenieur Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University Berlin in 1974, and worked at the same university until 1976 as Research assistant, Peter Wittenburg started working for the newly founded Max-Planck Institute (MPI) for Psycholinguistics, as head of the technical group. In 2011, he became head of the new unit called The Language Archive that was built as collaboration between Max-Planck-Society (MPS), Berlin-Brandenburg-Academy of Sciences and the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences. In his two roles at the MPI, his work included the lead of the Language Archiving Group with about 25 experts, the setting up of experimental labs at the MPI for Psycholinguistics including a variety of channels (speech, intonation, gesture, eye tracking, etc.) and the development of diverse analysis and digital signal processing tools, including speech processing and speech perception simulations. In 2011, he earned the Heinz Billing Award of the MPS for the advancement of scientific computation. Since 2012, he is now Senior Data Systems Advisor at the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility. In parallel, he is also currently assuming the role of member of the respective DONA and GOFAIR Foundation Boards, is Co-Chair of the Research Data Alliance’s Group of European Data Expert (RDA GEDE) and belongs to the EOSC FAIR Working Group. In 2013, Peter Wittenburg earned a Dr. hc Tübingen. His teaching experience was about « Intelligent Systems » at the University of Münster/Steinfurt and the University of Nijmegen.
